Israel hits the Iran’s embassy in Syria, killing commanders

A significant escalation in Israel’s conflict with its regional enemies occurred on Monday when Iranian military advisers, including three senior commanders, were allegedly killed when Iranian airplanes destroyed their embassy in Syria.
Rescue workers were witnessed scrambling onto the debris of a collapsed building within the diplomatic property, which was next to the main Iranian embassy.

Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad and Syria’s Interior Minister were present at the scene of the incident, and both issued harsh condemnations of the terrorist act that killed innocent people and targeted the Iranian embassy building in Damascus.
The Iranian ambassador to Syria stated that his house was located on the upper floors of a consular building within the embassy property, and that the strike had damaged that building.
Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in the Quds Force—an elite overseas espionage and paramilitary wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps—was among seven Iranian military advisers killed in the strike, according to a statement from the Iranian military. Israeli forces have frequently gone after Iranian operatives and military bases in Syria, but Monday’s strike was the first time they had targeted the large embassy complex directly.
Israel has reported that 1,200 people were murdered and 253 were taken hostage in an offensive on October 7 by the Palestinian group Hamas, which is sponsored by Iran and started the Gaza conflict. The strikes have intensified in line with the campaign against Hamas.

Iran referred to the attack as a “flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the foundational principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises.”
The Iranian representation in the United Nations condemned the hit, calling it “a significant threat to regional peace and security.” They also stressed that Tehran had the right to “take an aggressive response.”
A Lebanese militia known as Hezbollah has threatened retaliation, asserting its status as Iran’s most formidable regional allies. “The enemy will receive punishment and revenge,” the organization claimed in a statement, in response to this terrible act.
