Rocky Randhawa, a Punjabi boy who appears in the film as played by Ranveer Singh, falls in love with Rani Chatterjee, who is portrayed by Alia Bhatt. Rani is a prominent TV journalist, whereas Rocky is a fun-loving young man. The rest of the story is around how two people with quite different origins come to fall in love and convince their families to approve of their union.
